Weekend Update and Ham n Cheese Crescents.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful start to our last week in April – it’s crazy how fast time is going by this year!

Nick and I had a lovely weekend together just the two of us. He had finals all week through Saturday but we were able to make it out on Friday once I got off of work. We’ve been talking about how we need to use the free Disney passes I got from work because this will be our last year to enjoy them before we move. Since I get off of work early on Fridays, we decided we would spend the afternoon and evening at Epcot.
It was a nice day, a little warm (it’s already in the 90’s here – yikes!) but in the shade and once the sun started going down, it was perfect. We did a lot of walking, tried a few beers in the different countries and rode several rides.
It was really nice to go out and spend time together. I think it was especially nice for Nick to get out of the house since he was cooped up there almost all week studying for and taking final exams. He still had a big test to do on Saturday so we hung around the house and I made some food for the Tigers and Red Wings games. Below is a really simple recipe from Pillsbury I threw together and it is perfect as a game day appetizer. I think it would also be a great meal for a kid’s lunch.

Ham n’ Cheese Crescents
1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
8 thin slices cooked ham (8 oz)
4 thin slices Cheddar cheese (4 oz), each cut into 4 strips

Heat oven to 350°F. Separate dough into 8 triangles. Place 1 piece of ham on each triangle; place 2 strips of cheese down center of ham. Fold in edges of ham to match shape of dough triangle.

Roll up each crescent, ending at tip of triangle. Place with tips down on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 20 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Serve warm.

Sunday is our chill day so I went to the barn and rode Beau and Nick just relaxed at the house. This week I’m focusing on my cousins wedding and helping where I can to get everything together. This will be the first wedding we’ve attended since our own in 2012. I’m excited to be a part of the planning process and can’t wait until Friday to help setup and finalize details!

Horses on Television.

Happy Friday everybody!

I thought I'd stop in before we get this lovely weekend going and update my horse loving friends on some great TV finds that I have recently came across. I remember being a kid, new to riding and I jumped with joy when I found any type of horse show on TV - Does anyone remember Horse Power: Road to the Maclay? They should really do another reality show like this!

Anyways, I was interested to see what kind of equestrian shows are on TV now. So I searched my guide and was please to find a lot of choices. My cable company is Bright House Networks and we have the sports package (I don't know if you need to have this to be able to watch them). A lot of the shows are on channel 229 - FAMNET, there are also some on 205 - UNISP, 226 - BLUE and one in HD on 1120 - FAMNET. I was a little disappointed that almost all of them are not in HD but I guess I can live with it!

As you will see below, there are a surprising number of equestrian shows out there and I haven't had the time to really sit down and watch more than two episodes so I will write a later post with my reviews.

Here is a break down of the shows and what channel they are on.

FAMNET - 229
Chris Cox Horsemanship
Dennis Reis Universal Horsemanship
All Around Performance Horse
The Horse Show
Down Under Horsemanship
Advantage Horsemanship
Horsing Around New Zealand
Horse Master with Julie Goodnight
Horse Country USA
Equestrian Nation

UNISP - 205
FEI Equestrian World

BLUE - 226
Ed Dabney Gentle Horsemanship
Richard Winters Horsemanship
Lynn Palm Horsemanship

FAMNET HD - 1120
Parelli Natural Horsemanship

So that's the list. I need almost an entire day to sit and watch all of the episodes that are already clogging up my DVR. It's pretty crazy how many equestrian show are available and I'm loving it!

I hope you guys get to enjoy these shows too and let me know if I missed any!

We're heading out to EPCOT now - when you're given free passes and it's your last year living in Florida, you go to Disney! Have a wonderful weekend Everyone!

Fox Cry Horse Show

On January 25th I had my first competition in almost six years!
My nerves started to get to me during my last lesson three days before the show. I was questioning whether or not we (Beau and I) were ready, I was nervous about jumping a full course and being able to perform. I was starting to have a mental breakdown and was quickly forgetting how hard we had been working the past few months for this competition. After much needed consoling from my trainer, I sucked it up and got back to work. We finished my lesson on a good note and I was feeling much better.

Friday came very quickly and it was time to prep for the show. I went to the barn after work, rode Beau (and it was a great ride – yay!), gave him and Cash a bath, cleaned my tack and boots, loaded the trailer and headed home to relax before the big day.
Saturday morning Nick made breakfast, I grabbed some much needed coffee and we left for Chuluota. At this point I really wasn’t too nervous and honestly I never really got nervous the entire day. I was surprised with how calm and relaxed I was. I think that my demeanor rubbed off on Beau because he too was pretty laid back. He didn’t like when any of the other horses from our barn left his side but as long as I kept walking him around and letting him eat grass he was okay. Nick gave me a break too and spent some quality time with Beau.

After a few hours of hanging out it was time to get on and start warming up. I was pleased with Beau’s energy and enthusiasm to work. He was pretty focused and moving really nice. We hopped over a few fences in the warm up ring and then waited for our classes to start.
I signed up for the Childrens/Adults 2’6” division which is three jumping classes (one was a warm-up class that is not judged) and one flat class. My trainer told me my course and I headed in to the arena having no idea what to expect from Beau or from myself. We had a beautiful transition into the canter and headed to our first line.
Let me tell you, Beau is a complete ham when he gets into the show ring. He got into that arena and something just switched on in him and he performed amazingly! Not that he isn't always good but he was amazing during the show. We placed 2nd in our first jumping class, 3rd in our second jumping class and 4th in our flat class. We had great rounds and I was so happy with how well we did.
Doing so well for my first show in six years was a huge confidence boost. It made me so happy to see that all of our hard work the past six months had paid off.

Since the show, we have been working even harder on more some specific areas – getting Beau to move out and use his hind end more and releasing my hands. I can tell that we have already improved leaps and bounds since the show and I am looking forward to our next competition in May. We haven’t picked which one we’re going to yet but we are definitely doing it next month! Stay Tuned!

Three Month Break.

Has it really been almost three months since I last wrote a blog post? I can't believe it but I honestly think part of it has to do with the fact that I started a Facebook account and that has been keeping my family and friends up to date on our lives. I felt like this blog was pretty much doing that for us too, so why repeat myself?

Well here's why - I initially started this blog to document our move from Florida to Michigan (I tend to drift away from this subject when every day life occurs). Since we are less than a year away from our move, I have started to feel my motivation to write return. When something becomes the main topic of conversation between you and your friends and family, you know it's getting close! I really want to continue to record our last year in Florida and our new beginning in Michigan and I hope my readers return to join me.

After considering whether or not to continue with this blog, I've decided that I do want to move forward with it and give it my all. I truly enjoy blogging and I have missed it over the past few months. I've been keeping up with my favorite blogs as a blog reader but I'm ready to get back to being a blog writer!

Anyone who has actually stayed with me through this break, thank you so much! I look forward to sharing my adventures with you again!

For those of you who don't know, I had my first riding competition in January with Beau and that will definitely be the topic of my next post!

I hope you are all doing well! Talk to you again soon!
